Community OutreachCommunity outreach is one of my priorities as a researcher, and I actively strive to organize and participate in activities that allow me to connect with a variety of community members, including students, children, adults, and members of the scientific community, to engage them with oceans and reefs. I have regularly partnered with the Moody Gardens Aquarium and the Houston Museum of Natural Science, among others, to lead hands-on activities for visitors. I serve as the graduate mentor to undergraduate interns at the Roatán Institute for Marine Sciences every year. I have also acted as a science judge for the Chesapeake Bay Bowl, met virtually with an elementary school class through Skype a Scientist, given virtual presentations for high school students interested in pursuing careers in research, and recorded a podcast episode about coral reefs. I am currently developing tools to help students learn bioinformatics.
